South Africa COID earnings threshold increases to R668,000 in 2026

On 1 March 2026, South Africa's Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases (COID) earnings threshold will increase, affecting how employers calculate assessment contributions. If you manage payroll in South Africa, here's what you need to know.
Government Gazette 54577, published by the Minister of Employment and Labour, amends the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases (COID) earnings threshold under the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA). The change takes effect on 1 March 2026.
COID earnings threshold increase: What changes on 1 March 2026
- Effective 1 March 2026, the annual COID earnings threshold increases from R633,168.00 to R668,000.00 per annum, applying to the 2026/2027 limit.
- The COID threshold represents the maximum annual earnings per employee on which an employer's assessment is calculated under section 83(8) of COIDA. This affects how much your organisation contributes to the COID insurance scheme
